ARTISTE PEINTRE 1825-1920

This year is the centenary of the death of Carel Jozeph Grips. This painter, who lived and worked in Vught for most of his life, has a considerable selection of genre pieces, still lifes and landscapes to his name, which are exhibited in several museums. Carel Jozeph was also the patriarch of a Vught family of artists. As such, he schooled his sons Ernst and Frits as painters and his grandchildren Charles, Wies and Pieter made their way into the world of art as well. Carel Jozeph Grips and his family members, however, are only known in small circles. This was the reason for setting up the C.J.Grips foundation.
